Charleston, South Carolina

Here I am at Home in Gulf Harbour, before my worldly travels...

Below are some pictures from Charleston, SC at the Mega Dock where we were tied up to while awaiting our raw water "pump" for the engine cooling system.

  • Charleston, SC - We came into Charleston Harbor with the appropriately named "Charleston" Freighter. We spent the past few evenings trying to figure out the lights of various freighters, cruise ships, casino boats, and war ships.  It was quite exciting and after fighting the Gulf Stream current we decided to motor on into Charleston.  Alas, we discovered our raw water pump (for cooling the engine) was dysfunctional and in need of replacement, or re-building.  We spent several days in the marina enjoying the marina itself (lots of mega yachts, transient traffic) and visiting with Bob's Charleston friends.  One of his former "Air Force Reserve" buddies was getting married so we were able to attend.  Lots of fun meeting back up with some old FEDEX friends (John & Debi Bookas, Jeff Edison, Bob & Marsha Graham) and several of Bob's old reserve friends.

  • Charleston - We met a lot of great people at the Charleston Mega Dock. We were able to have dinner with friends Dave and Cheryl Copham of "Freedom" (and our home port at Gulf Harbour in Fort Myers, Florida).  We met Ray and Mary Jane aboard "Resolve" (a sister ship to Saretta's Dream - same model, same year, same layout - which made for some great comparisons of upgrades).  They were on their way to upstate New York for the summer.  We also met Tim McKenna aboard "Pooka" who was tied up ahead of us.  We were able to run into Tim also in Bermuda, as well as Horta, Azores Islands and he has a business in Vermilion, Ohio (Bob's hometown) which was fun!  We were there for two weeks awaiting a repair kit for our raw water pump to the engine.  But finally it arrived, the pump was repaired, and we were on our way again.  We passed Fort Sumter both ways and gives you a sense of history in this area of the country.  Next stop...Bermuda!
