• After a few hours stay in Seville (the only direct way to Lisbon was to take the Talgo Hotel Train back out of Madrid), they arrived in Lisbon a few days earlier than their neighbors and friends Ambassador Hoffman and his family were expecting them.  However, after walking along the streets of Cascais the Hoffman's spotted them and graciously invited them to stay at the Residence in Lisbon.

• Here is the Carlsberg version of the eléctrico (tram).  Ambassador Alfred Hoffman gave Bob and Tania a private tour of the Embassy along with some other house guests.

•   The view from Saint George's Castle were amazing.  Here is the entrance to the Residence.  Information for guests provided in the bedrooms.

• "The Crow's Nest" was the most amazing part of the Residence.  It was located on the top floor of the building and had extraordinary views over Lisbon.  They were privileged to have drinks with the Ambassador and his wife and other guests one evening as Ambassador Hoffman told the story of the "Crow's Nest".  Their faux artist painted a commerative plaque depicting the following: "During the turbulent times of 1975 and 1976, U.S. Ambassador Frank Carlucci and Mario Soares spent countless hours in this room advancing the causes of democracy and human rights for the people of Portugal."

• After a quick few days tour of the area they then returned back to me! (The Boat!) It was about time!  However they look forward to returning here and explore this area further after they finish crossing from the Azores in 2007.  Stay tuned...
