The view of the capitol city
of Lisbon from the "Crow's Nest" at the Ambassador's Residence
is just breathtaking in the evening. The Ambassador and
his wife Dawn had the interior painted to reflect the view over
the rooftops (without the furniture in the picture it would be
hard to see which is the real thing).

- A group picture from the "Crow's Nest"
including Tania, Dawn, her mother Gloria, Saul, Wennie, and
Diane. Diane, Wennie, Dawn, and Tania had some
spirited games of tennis at the residence (along with some
impromptu lessons for Dawn's girls). The main living
room inside.

-
Wennie,
Diane and Tania took a day off for sightseeing. They
viewed the westernmost point of the European continent at
Cabo da Roca . They then headed to the once favorite
retreat of Portugal's kings; Sintra. Here many palaces
are still enjoyed by the thousands of tourists that flock to
the UNESCO site every year. First they drove past
"Quinta da Regaleira", which was the obsession of eccentric
millionaire António Augusto Carvalho Monteiro and is filled
with a feast of historical and religious references, occult
symbols and mystery.

-
The
flowers and the wooded hills surrounding the area where just
beautiful. Here from the gate of "Seteais", which was
built in the 18th century for the Dutch Consul, Daniel
Gildemeester, they could view the "Palácio da Pena", which
stands on the highest peaks of the Serra de Sintra.
The girls spent a few hours in the old town of Sintra itself
to so a little shopping. A fun few days!
