Here I am comfortably ensconced in my slip in Cascais, Portugal after finally completing my Atlantic Crossing

(whew! It was about time...)

Bob and Tania finally finished their crossing of the Atlantic Ocean and finished in the Portuguese harbor of Cascais (just west of the capitol city of Lisbon).

  •   Cascais can be found on the northwest mouth of the Tagus River.   Although it has enjoyed a past in the wealthy Lisboetas histories with summer villas that are found everywhere fishing is still in force here.  Located near the famous Casino of Estoril (which many like to say was the inspiration for writer Ian Flemings "James Bond" series), Cascais is seeing another re-birth of building and use by Lisboetas as a weekend re-treat.  Found throughout Portugal the walkways and roadways are a great example of the use of colored marble and lava to create patterns.

  •  A view of Cascais harbor from the fort that has stood watch since the 17th century.  The coastline view from Cascais up to Cabo da Roca which marks the western point of the European continent.  The "Boca do Inferno" or mouth of hell shoots water up through its opening on rough weather days.

  • A view of the harbor at dusk from the fortress wall.  Looking down the walkway towards the beach and town.  Here I am in my slip on J Pontão in the Cascais marina (aahhh - so much quieter and comfortable than at Ponta Delgada, São Miguel).

  • Bob and Tania went to visit the new museum at the lighthouse to my stern the blue and white parts are all ceramic tiles.
